Bobcat iStudio: STEAM Mentor Connection - 6th-8th Grade--Minecraft BreakoutEDU
A great group of our district’s middle school students accepted the challenge to breakout. The event started with presentations by STEAM mentors from area business. Mr. Greg Forshey shared important career and life skills that can be associated with the Minecraft experience, from his experiences relating to computer and finance careers. Mr. Forshey also owns and manages an actual breakout room in the community. Mrs. Susan Read-Miller shared with the group regarding online safety and how understanding and practicing appropriate computer use can even lead to a career in her chosen field, finding and stopping cyber crimes! Facilitated by our BLMS/BLHS BIT team and mentors, small groups of students were given 38 minutes to follow the clues hidden in the digital Minecraft BreakoutEDU world and open four different types of locks: 3-digit, 4-digit, 5-letter word, and directional. It was close...problem-solving and communication skills were put to the test, but everybody made it out before time was up!
